On June 19th, 2015 in Sacramento one of the ventures of the Dons Net Cafe participated in a business plan competition after becoming a finalist out of more than 800 high schools in California.

The Dons Net Cafe is a class at Santa Barbara High School that teaches students how to start and run ethical businesses that create jobs, earn a profit and make some contribution to society.

The competition was part of a Small Business Summit, sponsored by the California Department of Education and included teams from both high schools and community colleges.

The teams presented in front of judges and a live audience, as well as audience and judges at nine other locations throughout the State via electronic hook-up.

I had the privilege of being in the live audience and watch the students we mentor take first place. Their prizes included free promotion, advertising and a check for $2,000.

The team's presentation referenced support from their business partners, including SCORE.
