This winter at UCSB, Barry Schindelheim will the Strategic Business Development for the Global Marketplace course. The course was developed for foreign exchange students, who are taking a semester at UCSB.  There are 22 students enrolled, all college sophomores or juniors.  They are all very bright and talented individuals.  The majority of students are in a work/study program and employed at  IBM, Amazon, Cancom, and other corporations.   The students are from Germany, Brazil, and China.

The course topics include evaluating and researching, compiling business plans, competitive analysis, investment sources, financial statements and ratios, leadership and communication skills, global marketing, and business negotiations and persuasion.  Some of the latter topics are taught by guest speakers.

The overall course objective is for the students to prepare a business plan executive summary and a marketing plan summary.  Working in groups, the students will present their product concept and business plans to a panel of local business experts.

The students will have up to 25 minutes to present their plans, then followed by a 5-10 minute Q&A by the judges.

A large portion of the student's grade will be to present their product concept/business plan to a panel of judges, similar to the TV show The Shark Tank.

This past Fall, 4 Santa Barbara SCORE counselors participated as judges.  Click here to view the course:
